The Jelly Girls

I’m Catherine Jelly Ferrar.

My brothers, sisters and I used to hop the fence from our cornfield to pick berries, apples and pears in a neighbour’s back garden.

I was number six of seven children born into the family of James and Betty Jelly.

As a farm girl, I loved the flowers in the garden and sitting in the apple tree. I didn’t like to get my hands dirty and preferred the company of dogs and kittens.

My move to Brant County reunited me with apple trees, pear trees, mulberry bushes and a desire to preserve this harvest and share my food.

My sisters showed me how to make jam and preserve my own fruit harvest and The Jelly Girls was created.

My mother’s picture is on every jar.

I now stand in my own backyard garden of Eden with a grateful heart.
